Warning for consumers: salmonella in chilled chicken meat from abroad

Published: 30 May 2024

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) warns consumers against unsatisfactory foodstuff TESCO Chicken breast fillet, fresh, packaged, lot: 24147102, breeding and slaughter: the Ukraine, veterinary identification mark: SK 10094 ES. Inspectors took the sample at the Tesco Stores ČR a.s., Sokolovská 2164, 347 01 Tachov

Laboratory analysis confirmed presence of Salmonella infantis, the causative agent of salmonella in the food lot concerned.

As the product in question was labelled ‘Use by: 15.04.2024’, it is no longer available on the market. However, CAFIA strongly recommends all consumers who might have the product at home in a frozen state that they do not consume it. Freezing has virtually no effect on bacterial contamination.

CAFIA entered the notification of the detected non-compliant foodstuff into the European Rapid Alert System for Food (RASFF).

CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure with the inspected person to impose a fine.
