CAFIA ordered to withdraw beans with herbicide haloxyfop four times over limit
Within its regular inspections, the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) detected and immediately imposed a ban on placing non-compliant foodstuff FAZOLE ČERVENÁ TESCO (red beans) on the market. The product was sold in a package à 500 g, with best before date by: 06. 07. 2025, county of origin: Argentina.
Broad spectrum analysis performed in an accredited laboratory confirmed presence of herbicide haloxyfop amounting to 0.57 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg) in the food sample. The relevant legislation sets the maximum tolerable level for that substance at 0.15 mg/kg.
The inspectors took the non-compliant sample at the premises of company Tesco Stores ČR a.s.,and ordered to withdraw the lot from all its branches.
According to the accompanying documentation, the non-compliant lot contained 1,344 packages.
CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure with the inspected person to impose a fine.
CAFIA recommends all consumers who may have the mentioned food lot at home that they do not consume it.
